Current Wishlist

These are some things I'll still be wanting in 2011. I've been lusting over these pieces for a few months now and I can't seem to stop loving them. Somehow, I'll try to get at least one of these in my wardrobe. Happy new years everyone! I'll be spending tonight with Kris for that midnight smooch.

Just Right by Jennifer Rubell

I am in love with this installation piece by Jennifer Rubell. Installations are my favorite form of art and this particular piece has to be one of my favorites. In "Just Right," viewers walk through a wall to reach a completely stripped, empty home, where they are encouraged to make and build their own bowl of breakfast oatmeal. What I love about Rubell is that her work often involves food and drink as media. I love food, so could this get any better? What I also love about pieces like these is that it allows viewers to see art that cannot be experienced inside museums and galleries. I feel that doing something unconventional is important for us reconceptualize art.

Janelle Monae

I love these photos of Janelle Monae by photographer, Zach Wolfe.  I absolutely love this girl because she encompasses everything that I love, which are robots, aliens, bows, oxfords, tailored shirts, trousers, and Batman capes. I love everything about her style and music. In my book, she exudes everything that is cool. I pretty much wanna be her or have her as my bff. If only!

Pizza for Dinner

My brother and I decided to make pizza today. We made enough dough to make four, with toppings varying between ricotta cheese, tomato, mushroom, spinach, and pepperoni. I haven't cooked with my brother in a long time, so this was a great opportunity for us to hang out in the kitchen again.

And also, I hope everyone's Christmas was wonderful! As for me, I just spent it with family since the xmas season really means celebrating my brother's birthday. His lands on Christmas Eve, so Xmas day was never too important with us.

Portraits of Kozy

I was browsing through Olivia Wright's photography work and realized she took these portraits of one my top favorite artists, Kozy, of Kozyndan. Kozyndan are a husband and wife team from Los Angeles who make incredibly detailed illustrations. I've been a fan of their work for nearly six years now, so it was a nice surprise to see these portraits of her.

My Uamou Plush

This is my gigantic Uamou plush that sits on my bed every day. My amazing boyfriend, Kris, bought him for me at San Diego Comic Con last year. If you're not familiar with Uamou, he's actually a toy figure created by artist, Ayako Takagi. I've also made another post about it here. The plush is extra special to me because I own the only prototype that was sold at Comic Con. More will be made, but it's great to know that I'm one of the firsts to have it! Kris and I also had the pleasure of meeting Ayako and getting this sketch done by her. It perfectly represents us because it has Kris' glasses, his LoveWright Co. hat, and my straight cut bangs.

Moss Bathroom Rug

Specializing in industrial design, packaging, and 3-D modeling, La Chanh Nguyen designed a live moss bathroom rug made out of recycled latex foam, which creates cells that house pieces of forest moss. Because moss requires very little water, it is able to thrive from the humidity of showers and the small drops of water that fall from your body. I thought this design was ingenious when I discovered it on Coroflot. This moss rug can now be purchased in France, but plans are being made to have this product marketed across Europe. I don't know the price, but I do know that I would love to have this in my home one day. I'm in awe. I just love this.

Inside Pharrell Williams' Miami Home

Todd Shelby of The Shelby recently photographed the Miami home of the one and only, Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D. We get a nice peek of all the art that he's attained from his fame of being a rapper, musician, producer, clothing designer, and co-creator of Billionaire Boys Club. Some of his art collection consists of KAWS, Takashi Murakami, Keith Haring, and Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel Bearbrick. All I can say is that I love how Pharrell spends his money. In the material world, artwork and a badass wardrobe is all I crave for.

The Work of Rodney Smith

One of my favorite photographers is Rodney Smith. I love how minimal his compositions are and how it's reminiscent of surrealist painter, Salvador Dali. He studied photography under Walker Evans, so there's also no wonder why Smith's work is incredible. The photos below are only a few of my many, many favorites.

Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes

Why do I love Natasha Khan? Because one of my favorite Bat for Lashes songs, "Daniel," was inspired by Daniel LaRusso from The Karate Kid films. In the music video, you see Natasha running to a boy dressed as LaRusso. And on the album cover for "Daniel," she reveals a drawing of LaRusso on her back. Just knowing how much she likes The Karate Kid makes me love her 100x more.
